Your First Chapter
Most agents and editors get so many manuscripts, they read one page before deciding to keep or toss. Here’s an easy, inexpensive way to test your opening (2,500 word max). Does it grab the reader? Is your setting clear, your voice compelling, your characters real, the dialogue sharp and revealing? You’ll get thorough feedback and a second reading. The process typically takes two-four weeks.

Sample + outline
Why this format? It’s what most agents and editors want to see. Submit up to 20,000 words and a brief outline of the rest of your story. I’ll comment on your characters, setting, point of view, pace, voice, authenticity and more. If needed, I’ll suggest writing exercises and readings, and spur you to raise the stakes. I’ll then read one revision. The process typically lasts one-two months from time of submission.

Full Manuscript
Finally finished your story? Send me 80,000 – 100,000 words, the length most agents and editors want. I’ll comment on your structure, characters, setting, point of view, pace, dialogue and more. I’ll pose questions and point out inconsistencies. You’ll get chapters back in manageable chunks and revise while I read the next. At the end, I’ll read one revision. The process typically lasts two-four months.
